TIM FOWLAR

Musical
director Tim Fowlar has been performing
professionally since 1970. He began
studying the saxophone at an early age and has never set it down.
He is also an accomplished Flute and Clarinet player, as well as a
veteran video and record producer.
As
a conductor, Tim has worked with over 500 acts, including George Burns,
Milton Berle, Dick Haymes, and Johnnie Ray.
His performance at the famed London Palladium, with song and dance
legend Donald O’Connor, was highlighted by the fact that, in 1980, Tim
was the youngest musical director to have perform there.
His
successful alliance with Donald O’Connor, as Mr. O’Connor’s musical
director, began in 1976. Since
then, Tim has made numerous appearances on the “The Tonight Show, with
Johnnie Carson, The Merv Griffin Show, The Mike Douglas Show, as well as
several TV specials, and guest conducting the Richmond, Baltimore, Utah, Phoenix
and London Symphonies, and has spent the last 3 decades touring the worlds,
continuing until O’Connor’s passing in September 2003. A favorite
performance of his was, returning to his home and performing at, the SAN
FRANCISCO JAZZ FESTIVAL, where he conducted the legendary COUNT BASIE
ORCHESTRA.
Tim
also had the pleasure of touring, as musical director, for the Donald
O’Connor/Mickey Rooney Show. They
performed throughout the United States and Canada, including performances at Roy
Thompson Hall-Toronto, The Riviera Hotel, Sands Hotel and Caesar’s Palace- Las
Vegas, and Ruth Eckerd Hall- Clearwater Florida, The Taj Mahal, Golden Nugget and
Resorts International - Atlantic City and with the London Symphony.
After
guest-conducting one performance with Eddie Fisher, Mr. Fisher asked Tim
to be his musical director. Tim
continued to work with Mr. Fisher until 1985, including performances in Las
Vegas, Atlantic City, Mexico and with the PHILADELPHIA POPS.
Tim
is acknowledged, by producers and musicians alike, to be one of the finest
“LIVE” variety show conductors in the country.
He honed his craft during his many years on the road with the Roy
Radin Vaudeville Revue, which was the last touring vaudeville show in
existence.
As
a producer, Tim has worked on both video and audio recording projects.
The most exciting and challenging of which, for Tim, was the Billy
Barty Foundation video project “FROM WHERE I STAND”, featuring
Carl Anderson and Ellis Hall. As
producer and executive producer of this project, he handled all negotiations
with publicists, record and video distribution companies and all participating
celebrities. The single “FROM
WHERE I STAND”, was released through Chameleon Music Group on January 24,
1990, distributed by Capital Records.
The
recording and release of “FROM WHERE I STAND”
was one of the most
successful projects of it’s time, being covered in over 800 publications world
wide, all three networks, all independent Los Angeles stations, Entertainment
Tonight and MTV.
It
was also nominated of the Image Award, 1990.
Tim
has just completed producing an new album for Eddie Mekka, “Carmine”
from “Laverne and Shirley”,
called “EDDIE MEKKA, WITH A LITTLE RAGOO ON THE
SIDE”.
Sales of this album began on May 15th, 2004.
As
an instrumentalist, Tim has played shows, too numerous to mention, from variety
to Broadway. His first love has
always been Jazz, although he enjoys performing all forms of music.
Tim’s higher education was pursued at the Berklee College of Music,
in Boston., where he studied performance and arranging with such Jazz greats as Herb
Pomeroy, Joe Viola, Andy McGhee
and Gary Burton, as well as independent studies with saxophone greats
Vince Denham, best known with
Vince Guaraldi and Sal Nistico, of Woody Herman fame.
While at Berklee, he had the opportunity to play in classes with Burton, as well as
performing with Abe
Laboriel- Henry Mancini, George Zonce - Buddy Rich, Eddie Burn-
Joe Henderson and most extensively with jazz trumpeter Tony Klatka -
Woody Herman Band and Blood Sweat and Tears.
One
of his most recent and enjoyable performances was an extended engagement, at the
Desert Inn- Las Vegas, in the horn section of the marvelous Susan Anton.
Sadly, this was the last act to perform at the Desert Inn before it
closed. He has also been working
with new jazz artist Larry White, soon to be a major player on the Jazz
scene.
Becoming increasingly frustrated by the recording industry, Tim and his long time friend, recording artist, Larry White, started a new innovative Jazz Internet label Newport Pacific Records.com, a subsidiary of Newport Pacific Records, a label started by Larry and his wife Margaret. Tim was former Executive Vice President of A & R. They hoped to present the best of the undiscovered Jazz artists to the listening world. The company closed it's doors in late 2005.
Newport Pacific Records presented the first annual Newport Pacific Jazz Festival in Henderson, Nevada, August 27th and 28th, 2005. Tim was an Associate Producer of this event, which was extremely successful, with such star acts as "Devoted Spirits", made up of three of the original members of "Earth, Wind and Fire", Nils, the number one Smooth Jazz artist and "Rick Latham and the Groove Doctors" from Los Angeles along with 12 other wonderful Jazz groups.
Tim
is a second generation native Californian, born in Petaluma, California and
currently residing in Las Vegas, Nevada. In
1992, Tim married actress/singer Nicolette Goulet, daughter of singing star
Robert Goulet. On May 29,
1994 , Tim and Nikki had a daughter, Solange-Louise Goulet Fowlar.
Sadly, Nikki
passed way on April 16, 2008, a result of breast cancer, but his daughter continues to be the joy of his
life, his constant companion and best friend.
